Help people flourish. Help businesses become what they can be.
Old Hickory Group was built around a simple idea: many good businesses are not far from becoming much stronger. Sometimes they are missing only one or two things—and the right outside perspective can change the trajectory.

Nearly 30 years of perspective across businesses of very different sizes.
Phillip's career spans both the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Early in his career, he worked with organizations including Pan Am World Services and Johnson Controls. More recently, he helped lead a local congregation through growth from roughly 200 members to more than 10,000 worshipers with a global reach and impact.
His experience ranges from startups to large corporations and includes finance, operations, organizational growth, leadership, and board governance.
Phillip currently serves as Board Chair for Primary Care & Hope Clinic, which serves underserved and underinsured people in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He also serves on the boards of the VIN Foundation, supporting the veterinary profession, and Intend Ministries.
It started by helping someone who needed an extra set of hands.
When a peer became ill and needed help while recovering, Phillip stepped in. He discovered that he not only enjoyed the work—he could see how providing a few missing pieces could help a business improve dramatically.
That experience shaped the way Old Hickory Group works today. The objective is not to sell a predetermined package. It is to understand what's actually happening, identify the issue that matters most, and help solve it.
Sometimes that becomes a long-term relationship. Phillip has worked alongside some clients for many years. Other times, the work lasts only long enough to solve a specific challenge, install the right processes, prepare for a transition, or get the company to a point where the team can confidently carry it forward.
A useful advisor should be in the fight with you.
Find the real issue.
Don't assume the first symptom is the real problem. Listen, investigate, and understand before prescribing.
Create momentum.
Start where a meaningful change can be made quickly enough to build confidence and momentum.
Build what lasts.
Put the right people, processes, services, and disciplines in place so the business becomes healthier—not more dependent on a consultant.
Underpromise. Overdeliver.
Phillip wants clients to be able to say that he listened, understood, cared about them as people, delivered what he said he would deliver, and was worth the investment.
Ten years from now, Old Hickory Group should still be known for the same thing: taking the journey with clients, figuring out what they truly need, and helping make it happen.
